Our adult ministry is very dynamic and robust. There are many different areas to be involved at all different levels. Whether it be music, worship, social, leadership, or skill based labor; we welcome everyone to be involved.
The Worship Committee is tasked with pursuing new opportunities to enrich worship. Some of these special events have included: the Shortest Day/Longest Night service, celebration of the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s 95 Theses, Meal in the Upper Room, and Blessing of the Animals. Ongoing activities of this committee include hymn selection, special music, flowers, and banners.
The Adult Choir under the direction of Pamela Putrich rehearses on Wednesday evenings and provides music for each of the three weekly services approximately once each month as well as for holiday services.
The Ladies Ensemble under the direction of Pamela Putrich rehearses on Saturday afternoon and provides music for each of the three weekly services approximately once each month as well as for holiday services.
The Bell Choir under the direction of Ken George rehearses on Tuesday evenings and provides music for all three weekly services as well as for holiday services.
The Altar Guild prepares and cleans the linens on the altar and changes the colors based on the seasons of the church.
The purpose of the Faith Development Committee is to enhance and expand your personal faith journey. Offerings of the committee include: Sunday School and VBS, Adult Education and Bible study, Living Lutheran Magazine and Questions Kids Ask.
Sunday school meets each Sunday throughout the school year. Teachers and assistants provide Bible lessons and activities for our children ages 3 through high school.
Vacation Bible school meets for one week each summer. Each year the Bible lessons are coordinated around a theme. Coordinators, teachers and helpers decorate the church and prepare lessons and activities around the theme to teach children through 6th grade about Jesus.
The Adult Education Hour meets on Sunday mornings between services and tackling relevant topics in line with our Christian teachings.
Bible Study meets on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. We study each book of the Bible and learn some interesting things that you’ve never heard in Sunday School.
Peace Page Turners is a book discussion group. This group meets every 5 – 6 weeks during the education hour between services to discuss a book selected by the group.
The mission of the Service Committee is to sponsor and prepare the church’s efforts to reach out to people in need offering help, support and encouragement. A few of these service opportunities are coordinating food drives, flu shots, APR/AED training, mission trips, and meals to members in need.
Once each month this group serves meals to the homeless at Morning Star Mission.
This group coordinates, prepares and serves funeral luncheons, as needed.
Peace Buddies is a special needs group for high school and older. Helpers coordinate activities for this group.
Each Christmas we support the Santa Cruz Lutheran Church in Joliet, LSSI, and the ELCA’s Good Gifts program for people around the world. This ministry has us donating (and delivering locally) gifts for children and adults in need.
This group meets on Monday morning to create quilts that are donated to individuals and groups in need.
This group meets on Wednesday evening to knit and crochet and pray over the prayer shawls created for those in need.
The Fellowship Committee develops and coordinates activities and social events that broaden and strengthen our congregation. Some of the ongoing groups and activities include Peace Buddies, Dinners for Eight, Women’s and Men’s groups, talent show, and the church picnic.
Each year the church provides Thanksgiving dinner to those who need it or who desire the fellowship of others. Volunteer opportunities abound in the preparation and serving of this dinner including, set up and clean up, preparing food, serving, pick up and drop off of the diners, and delivery of dinners to shut-ins.
The Men’s group meets on the second Tuesday evening of the month during the school year for dartball and fellowship.
The Adult Fellowship group meets nearly monthly for activities, such as, bunco, wine tasting, or other planned activities.
Trailblazers is a senior group who get together monthly on the third Tuesday of each month at noon for food and fellowship.
Dinners for 8 are small groups that meet in the home of a leader for food and fellowship.
This group meets periodically and is open to all ages. Various activities may include fellowship at church or individual homes, plays, museums.
WOMEN'S GROUP INTREST INDICATOR
This group meets periodically after the Saturday evening worship. Local restaurants are selected and the dates vary.
Volunteer opportunities with the Support Committee include, help with the stewardship appeal, connecting to our church-sponsored missionary, offering counting, and writing notes for the newsletter on faith and giving.
This is a ministry of planting seeds about our faith and what Peace Lutheran Church is about with an emphasis of bringing the unchurched to worship. Volunteer opportunities include, door-knocking, new member sponsors, and welcome ambassadors.
The Caring Ministry group is involved in the mission of reaching out to members who have been absent from worship for an extended period of time. The team relays a caring attitude and an indication that they have been missed.
Coordinates maintenance of the church building and grounds. Volunteer opportunities are available for lawn and garden/planter maintenance.
